Cameron Hill is putting his name forward as the driver of 2025 so far. Here's why

"In Cam, we see a lot of great potential."

They were Matt Stone's words upon signing Cameron Hill for the 2023 season. Two years and a contract extension later, and the Canberran has well and truly delivered on his team owner's remarks.

Through three rounds in 2025, Hill is putting his name forward as the driver of 2025 so far. When looking at his gradual rise up the leaderboard, it's clear to understand why.

Hill, the 2021 Porsche Carrera Cup champion, rose to the main game with Matt Stone Racing in 2023, replacing Todd Hazelwood.

In a tough initiation to Supercars, Hill finished 23rd overall with an average qualifying result of 17.32, and average race result of 17.60.

Hill improved to 13th overall last season with an average race result of 13.43, and average qualifying result of 14.21.

Beaten by veteran teammates Jack Le Brocq (2023) and Nick Percat (2024), Hill has well and truly emerged as MSR's leader in 2025, powering out of the blocks to leave his 2023 and 2024 starts for dead.

In 2023, Hill's average qualifying and race results through three rounds were in the 19s, while he followed up a 12.50 qualifying average with a 15.29 race average last year.

Under rookie engineer Caleb Mutsaerts, across the first three rounds this season, Hill has a win and two podiums to his name, and sits seventh with a race average of 8.00, and qualifying average of 9.89.

No driver has had a greater year-on-year gain on race day than Hill, who is 7.29 positions on average better than 2024. Through three rounds last year, Hill had a 15.29 race average, which has plummeted to 8.00 this season.

On overall numbers, Hill is 11.37 positions better in race trim versus 2023, and 9.89 positions better in qualifying.

It's a stunning rise, given Hill has gained nearly 12 positions in what is a 24-car field.

Hill is 201 points behind leader and reigning champion Will Brown, and 90 points behind Brodie Kostecki in sixth. It could have been even better had Hill not left pit lane in Sydney with the fuel churn still attached.

The series now heads to Tasmania, which is arguably Hill's strongest track outside of the Grand Prix. He claimed his maiden Supercars top 10 at the circuit in 2023, and finished sixth last season.

Crucially, Hill's charge to second in the Taupō finale proved his Grand Prix speed was no fluke. He was ultimately mugged by Matt Payne for the lead, but wasn't challenged from there for second.

Most importantly for Hill, he is now dictating terms on track at MSR, with Percat 4.67 positions worse off in race trim relative to last season, and well behind Hill. Percat dropped from 10th to 14th overall, and is now 141 points behind Hill.

"We're trying to make it a regular thing," Hill said after scoring his third podium of the season in Race 10.

"It's pretty tough in this game, I sort of felt like we left a few points on the table yesterday. I didn't think we were lacking pace, it's just a few things that cost results."

The 2025 Repco Supercars Championship will resume at the Snowy River Caravans Tasmania Super 440 on May 9-11. Tickets are on sale now.
